What an honor to participate in ArtPrize 2013 ! "Time Lapse" was on display at the Women's City Club in downtown Grand Rapids.
ARTIST STATEMENT: This depiction of the familiar Grand Haven Pier reminds us of our past, but also draws us into the unknown future. The poignant life jacket, rendered useless by the thick icicles, serves as a reminder of the many lives lost on the waters of Lake Michigan. At the same time, the strong lines of the bridge inevitably draw our gaze deeper into the image. We are not allowed to stay fixated on the past. Instead, Time Lapse draws us out of ourselves and challenges us to look forward towards the beacon of hope in the great unknown. The piece was wrapped over a wood frame, finished with a UV and water resistant dry laminate, and then set into a wooden box frame. Photographed with a Nikon D300; 10-24mm lens; F8; 1/200.
Maureen Elizabeth Photography was invited to be a guest artist at Moynihan Gallery & Framing in Holland, Michigan. In addition to showcasing work, we set up an interactive "photo wall" where customers donned wacky props and bigs smiles for an impromptu photo session. Moynihan Gallery is celebrating 20 years of business this year, and we were excited to be a part of the fun. A complete photo gallery is available to view or purchase photos online.
Celebrating Independence Day at John Collins Park in East Grand Rapids. God bless America!
It was a beautiful day in Chicago, perfect for taking in the beauty of the spring tulips and for enjoying the the reflective distortion of the "Bean" sculpture. This huge art piece, located in Millennium Park, is formally known as the "Cloud Gate" but most people call it the Bean because of its characteristic shape. This sculpture proves that a bean by any other name is just as shiny, at least in the Windy City!
"The Gauntlet" is a 6-8 mile extreme obstacle challenge designed to push participants to their limit, and we were excited to provide images for their event website. The recent flooding in Grand Rapids created a perfect muddy playground for our photo shoot and we had an action packed afternoon filled with dirt, sweat, and mud. For more information on the event, which is taking place on October 12, 2013, check out the event website.
Port Huron offered a beautiful backdrop for Abby's senior photo session, even on a chilly April day.
Graceful, beautiful, and artistic...three words that describe dancer Martha Bellamy. Martha is an instructor at the Michigan Ballet Academy in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Lake Michigan was at its wintery finest in Grand Haven this weekend. It was quite an adventure capturing these shots on the rough, icy terrain. Part of the excitement was falling through the snowy ice mixture up to my knees. Thankfully, I was not close enough to the water to be in real danger, but it was a bit of a shock to realize I was temporarily "stuck" in a mini glacier! I twisted my way out of the hole, grateful that my camera was unharmed, and continued the adventure with my new battle wounds. I've never been one to be stopped by bruises or glaciers, especially when there are shots to be captured! All in all, it was a great day!
